Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 13, 2026
Prick ("the App") is a free glucose monitoring application for iOS. Your privacy matters. Here is exactly what happens with your data.
Data We Collect
None. Prick does not collect, transmit, or store any of your data on external servers. There is no backend, no analytics service, no crash reporting service, and no third-party SDK of any kind.
Data Stored on Your Device
The following data is stored locally on your iPhone:
- Glucose readings (from Bluetooth sync or manual entry)
- Person profiles (names and color preferences)
- Meal records, food tags, and meal events
- Experiment data and results
- App preferences (button position, active profile)
- Consent records for the in-app medical disclaimer acknowledgement, including the timestamp and version of each document you acknowledged
- Bluetooth and iCloud sync logs, which you can view or delete at any time from the app's Settings
This data never leaves your device except via iCloud sync (see below) or when you explicitly export it.
iCloud Sync
If you have iCloud enabled on your device, your data syncs via Apple's CloudKit infrastructure. This uses Apple's encryption and Apple's servers. The developer has no access to your iCloud data. You can disable iCloud sync for this app in your device's Settings under iCloud.
Bluetooth Data
Prick connects to your glucometer using standard Bluetooth Low Energy (Glucose Profile). The connection is direct between your iPhone and your meter. No data passes through any intermediary server. Bluetooth sync logs are stored locally on your device and can be viewed or deleted in the app's Settings. These logs may include your meter's hardware identifier, which the app uses solely to deduplicate readings on your device. The identifier is never transmitted off your device.
Health Data
Prick does not integrate with Apple Health and does not read from or write to the Health app. Your glucose data stays entirely within Prick.
Third-Party Services
None. The app uses no analytics (no Firebase, no Mixpanel, no Amplitude, no Google Analytics), no crash reporting (no Crashlytics, no Sentry), no advertising, and no social media SDKs. The app is built entirely with Apple's native frameworks.
Data Export
You can export your data as JSON or CSV from the app's Settings. When you export, the file is generated locally on your device and shared through the standard iOS share sheet. The developer does not receive a copy of your export.
Your Rights Under GDPR (European Economic Area, United Kingdom)
If you are located in the EEA or the UK, data protection law gives you rights including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection in relation to personal data that a data controller holds about you. Because Prick does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on any server controlled by the developer, the developer holds no personal data about you to which these rights could apply. All data you create in the app resides on your own device and, optionally, in your own iCloud account, both of which are under your direct control. You can exercise full control over your data at any time through your device's Settings (for local data and iCloud sync) and the in-app Settings (for export and deletion).
Your Rights Under the CCPA (California, United States)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act gives you rights including the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to delete personal information, and the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. The developer does not collect, sell, share, or otherwise process your personal information. There is no information for the developer to disclose, delete, or stop selling, because none is ever collected.
Children
Prick is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. The app is intended for adults monitoring or managing their own glucose, or for use within a family where an adult is responsible for the app and its acknowledgements.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy if the app's data practices change. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Since the app collects no data, meaningful changes to this policy are unlikely.
